Get Inspired to Wear Some Double Breasted Pieces
What was once considered an 80s Wall-Street look, has found its way back into the modern man’s wardrobe. What is different from the 80s however is the way the modern Double-Breasted suit is tailor. It featured a much more tapered fit compared to the boxy cut from the 1980s. Also, the lapels (both notch and peak lapels) tend to be slightly narrower.
Below we are showing some of our favorite double-breasted looks which we found on some of our favorite style blogs. Be it formal black tie, dressing for a wedding, going to a business party, or simply just to stroll along the streets of NYC, the DB look works for them all.
A perfect example of a modern Double-Breasted cut can be seen here. The peak lapels are rather narrow, and the tapered fit is nicely paired with a skinny black tie, tie bar, as well as modern shirt collar.
While to more pronounced lapels on this suit are a bit more traditional compared to the first picture above, the well tailored cut, use of flannel, and the addition of the skinny knit tie all give this piece a very contemporary look. Picture via Trashness.com
You know that the DB-cut is literally coming back into the limelight when designer Tom Ford shows up in a perfectly tailored double breasted Tux. The combination of wider spread bow tie is in perfect proportion to the wider peak lapels. Well done Mr Ford!
