Fashion Tips for GOP Candidates

Winning Style Tips for the Four GOP Candidates

Those who follow politics have likely found themselves in over their heads with republican campaigns as of late. Between debates, attack ads and the nation-wide campaign trail, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have all gotten plenty of air time on television so far this year. Anyone who steps out into the public eye this often has to expect to be dissected by onlookers to at least some extent; especially based upon the way they dress. The GOP candidates do a decent job of putting themselves together, although not one of them exhibits a flawless fashion sense. The following are just a few fashion tips for the 4 GOP candidates, all of which they could benefit from taking into consideration.

Mitt Romney
Mitt Romney is considered by many people to be the best-dressed of the four GOP candidates. Romney’s look is characterized by crisp suits, striped red ties and hair that always seems to be quite well put-together. If anything, however, Romney lacks personality; especially during debates. While he needs a lot more than a boost in his fashion sense to fix this, perhaps if he were to inject a bit more fun into his style he wouldn’t get criticized so often for having little to no personality whatsoever. Think bolder-colored mens ties, and some more intriguing patterns every once in a while. Our favorite tie suggestions for Romney: This blue polka dot tie as well as this wine red striped tie – two ties that, although unique and fun, still professional enough to go along with Romney’s conservative stance. Romney may be fairly well-dressed, but it’s difficult to argue the fact that he appears a bit dull and stagnant from debate to debate.

Newt Gingrich
Romney and Gingrich might be neck on neck at the GOP race, but Gingrich clearly loses in terms of how he dresses. Much of Gingrich’s appearance is held back by the fact that he happens to be a bit heavyset, which naturally makes it somewhat difficult for him to dress in an attractive manner. For the most part, Gingrich wears a lot of rather conservative suits; navy blue and charcoal are the name of the game for him. If Gingrich makes any mistakes that are at least somewhat fixable, however, it’s in the tie colors he tends to wear. Shiny purple ties do nothing to help propel his appearance to the next level; he should stick to conservative colors like muted reds and classic navy blues, and could benefit from wearing simple stripes rather than the elaborately patterned ties that he’s often seen wearing.

Ron Paul
Ron Paul happens to be the oldest of the four candidates, and isn’t doing a great deal to make himself look any younger based upon the way he tends to dress. Perhaps the biggest fashion mistake that Ron Paul makes on a consistent basis is the fact that he tends to wear suits that are far too big for his stature. Ron Paul is a relatively little guy, and should be wearing suits that are fitted to his body type; he often looks like he’s drowning in fabric, which makes him appear unprofessional. If Paul was to make this simple change to his appearance, it’d be a lot easier for people to take him seriously as a legitimate candidate.

Rick Santorum
Rick Santorum has experienced quite a resurgence in popularity. In terms of style, Santorum is very often seen sporting a sweater-vest, which he likely wears in order to put himself on the same plane as the “everyman.” That said, Santorum could benefit greatly from ditching this average Joe’s clothing piece, and replace it with conservative, well-tailored suits. With a bold red tie, crisp white dress shirt and navy blue or charcoal suit, Santorum all of a sudden becomes a believable republican candidate.
