Mens Fall Fashion 2011 in Bright Colors

Fall Fashion 2011 Updates: Bright Colors

Strong, dark colors have always been the typical stomping ground for men’s fashion – especially in Fall & Winter. The brooding shades and solid hues have always been comfortably masculine. Much of that gets challenged this fall, with the arrival of the bright colors trend that was seen on many a fashion show several months back. Bold hues compliment a bold man’s style statement, but only if they’re worn the right way.

Dark Star of the Show
In a way, men’s fashion designers haven’t let go of the industry’s old standards. Save for a handful of pieces that scream color, the rest of the season takes from a much more subdued palette. There lies the secret to making bold colors work in a guy’s outfit.

One thing a bold color always does is ask for attention, and you best deal with that by complying. Let it hog the spotlight by pairing a bold color item with softer pepper grays and muted neutrals like beige or khaki – classic colors that never go out of style. What that does is it lets the boisterous, fun-loving nature of the color shine through, but not to the point that it becomes overwhelming.

Grab a shirt in one of those colors you can see from a mile away (fuchsia is a great place to start) and pair it with navy trousers or dark wash jeans, leaving the collar open. For the office, you can button up, add a black knit necktie and then throw on a gray jacket.

Load Up on Layers
Fall, thankfully, is always a season of layers. On top of your shirt and neckties, you can have anything from a cardigan to an impressive overcoat, and everything in between besides. While the practical purpose is to keep you warm and toasty, there’s also the added benefit of making a loud color look easier to assemble.

Visually, any added layer tends to tone down the pieces under it because there’s less of the latter to be seen. This works out pretty well for bold, bright colors that don’t need a lot of exposure to look good – or to get their point across.

Although there are countless varieties and combinations in the fashion industry for you to discover, there are only three that you should absolutely have for matching with a bold color item. Once you have outerwear and layering pieces in navy, gray and a neutral, your layers should be ready to match everything up your sleeve.

Try layering a dark oxford over a bold color crew neck tee, with the shirt unbuttoned just so there’s a bit of bright color peeking out. It’s a quick and painless way to add cheek and attitude to an outfit that’s ready to go anywhere you are.

Season Accessories
A lot of men find a bold color shirt a difficult item to pull off, and one can hardly blame them. You don’t, however, have to necessarily start channeling the trend with shirting. Accessories are just as effective at getting the trend across while putting the least of your outfit at risk of faux pas.

Office-bound guys are sure to appreciate a bright and bold necktie to really liven up their shirt and tie rotation this season. If you’re more of a casual style man, pick up a pair or three of plastic shades in garish shades. They’re inexpensive, low-commitment items that let you try this season’s hottest color trend for yourself.
