Mens Summer 2011 Fashion Accessories

Best Summer Fashion Accessories for Men

storing-mens-tiesYou might not be a fan of season on season fashion shows, but you’ll have to admit that you do make some changes to your wardrobe to suit the weather. Men’s fashion, by and large, is about comfort and practicality, so the clothes you wear and the accessories you wear with them should adjust to what you need for the months ahead.

Slim and Trim
Bulk is the last thing you want in any summer outfit. With the heat and all the activities you’re bound to do in these warmer months, you want every ensemble to be as comfy and practical as possible. That’s something you should consider when picking accessories.

Nobody said that tank tops and shorts are the only things you should wear this season, especially if you go to work in a dress code-conscious office. Neckties and suits are still very much part of the standard male wardrobe; you simply have to remember to add that ‘slim and trim’ qualifier. Instead of your usual dad-size tie, for example, now is when you bring out (or buy) the contemporary-looking slim tie you should’ve worn last week.

The same idea is especially applicable for your leather accessories. Men tend to bring big, overstuffed wallets that add an unsightly bulge in your rear pocket. Nobody’s impressed. Create a sleeker silhouette for your seat with a trimmer, slimmer wallet that just has the essentials: a license, a credit card or two and enough bills to get you around.

Pop of Color
Boring is the last thing any style-conscious man wants to be. Now that the summer heat has made layering and volume pieces impractical, you should compensate for the visual effect by adding brighter and bolder colors.

Summer is the season of daring and audacious colors, whether it’s ketchup-and-mustard or a screaming plaid. Some of the things that would’ve been painfully clashing in fall or winter become simply fun and trendy in the summer.

The secret to pulling off an otherwise disastrous combination of colors is restraint. Men’s fashion is very often about the details: the subtle stitching, the barely seen lining, the last minute accessory. Use a pop of bold color – a necktie, a pocket square, a watch strap – instead of a full-on explosion. The effect will be appreciable but not excessive, subtle in all the right ways.

Go Casual
A large part of fashion resides in a gray area where they’re a mix of both formal and casual, a region where things can be dressed up or down. The style recommendation for summer is to wear pieces that err on the side of casual. Now that everyone’s kicking back and having a grand old time, it’s a good idea to get on the bandwagon.

Loafers, for example, make for a more laid back alternative to lace-ups, while a tan suit shrugs off the English banker vibe of a gray one. Replace leather accessories with canvas ones to subtract that forty-something look and to add a dash of East Coast sophistication. Again, this is something that can work in an office setting, as long as all the essentials are in place – necktie, suit and a good pair of leather shoes.
