Re-Inventing Your Style for Spring 2012

Re-Invent Your Personal Style

reinventing-mens-styleMany people use spring as a metaphor for reinvention. After all, spring is when the windows are opened once again and fresh air is breathed into life, making it the perfect time to switch up any bad habits or otherwise humdrum aspects of one’s life. This is especially true of men’s fashion. Indeed, there’s nothing more important than switching up your fashion if you aren’t happy with the way you’ve been dressing lately, and spring is certainly the best time to do so. There are a variety of ways to add “punch” to your fashion sense; it doesn’t have to be nearly as difficult as many people think. The following are just a few tips for reinventing your style this spring; perfect for those who have been feeling stagnant.

Consider Pastels
Spring is all about bright, airy colors, and there’s no better way to embrace the season than to add pastels to your wardrobe. Seafoam green, baby blue and salmon are perfect colors for adding spring-like accents to any ensemble, and can be worn either as focal points or accents. Pastels don’t have to be as difficult to wear as they are often thought to be. Start by incorporating them into your ensemble in small doses; pocket squares, ties and socks can all be very effective. As you become more comfortable with pastels, you can move onto polo shirts and even trousers if you see fit. A word of warning: pastels can clash quite easily, so it’s best to wear them with neutrals whenever possible in order to ensure that your ensemble doesn’t turn heads for the wrong reasons.

Embrace the Denim Jacket
Denim jackets scream “spring” in the same way that they are indicative of fall; transition seasons and denim seem to go hand in hand. If you aren’t used to wearing a denim jacket, throwing one on for the first time can be somewhat of a strange feeling. After all, denim is somewhat of a crisp, “hard” material in comparison to fabrics that are typically used in jackets and coats, but it can be quite attractive and perfect for keeping those early-spring winds at bay. With so many designer denim jackets on the market to choose from, you should have little issues finding one that will fit your lifestyle well. Look for denim jackets that are form-fitting; boxy varieties will almost always cause a disconnect. For best results, strive to avoid those which feature bulky waist pockets.

Leave Your Sandals at Home
It’s not uncommon for men to take the first signs of spring as license to throw on a pair of sandals. While spring weather can certainly be quite comfortable, sandals really aren’t the right choice for this time of year. In fact, they can be downright embarrassing when worn on a day where even the slightest chill might be felt. Rather, consider boat shoes (yes, we will be featuring a complete article on Boat Shoes as part of our 10-Part Fashion Series), as being the perfect footwear for the transition from winter to summer; warm enough to keep your feet insulated, yet lighter and more airy than most footwear that is worn throughout the tail-end of winter.
