Flattering Style Tips for Each Body Type

fashion-tips-by-body-typeIf our health and fitness tips that are part of our “Health, Fitness, and Fashion Series“, didn’t do the trick in getting your body beach ready, then you can use clothing cuts, color, and patterns to obtain a flattering appearance without having to break a sweat. In fact, anyone who considers themselves to be fashion-forward owes it to themselves to take the time to learn how to dress for their individual body type. After all, not everyone has the physique of a model, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Trying to dress as if you do when you don’t, however, is bound to lead to a fashion faux pas or two. Fortunately, there are flattering ways to dress for just about every body type, and doing so will help you to look your best on a regular basis. Instead of trying to fit into a ridiculously tight pair of pants when it just isn’t happening, consider all of the following tips in order to dress in a way that will help you to look as if you’ve truly put some thought into your appearance.

Thin
As one might expect, men who are thin have a lot to rejoice about when it comes to fashion. This is especially true given the fact that the “skinny” look is particularly popular at the moment, with a lot of guys opting to wear skinny jeans more often than in the past. You can also get a lot of mileage out of a v-neck shirt or sweater, which look great on those who have a thin build because they accentuate the body type even more. A well-tailored blazer can look fantastic on any guy who is thin enough to pull it off, and should not be underestimated. Finally, consider a chunky knit scarf in the fall or winter, which will add contrast to a lean body for a very appealing look.

Muscular
A lot of muscular guys think that it’ll be in their favor to wear skinny jeans, but this just isn’t the case. A loose-fit pair of jeans will go over far better, as it won’t look as if you’re strangling yourself in the name of fashion (no matter what people say, this is never something to be proud of). They don’t have to baggy; just relaxed. The same goes for the upper part of the body, as tight-fitted tees won’t do anything to help you look your best. Rather, you should layer with flannel in the winter or consider a simple Polo shirt in the spring/summer. After all, there’s a difference between showing off your arms and trying to prove something, which is never recommended by fashion experts.

Husky
Husky men don’t have to throw in the towel when it comes to dressing in a flattering manner. Vertical stripes, for example, can make large men appear to be thinner than they actually are, and can also be quite attractive. Since horizontal stripes do the opposite, these should be avoided whenever possible. You may also want to consider wearing more black than you might otherwise, as black is considered by many to be a “thinning” color. In terms of upper body, the cardigan can be quite effective on larger men; especially pieces that feature a slim cut rather than a drape cut.
