T-Shirt Styles and How to Wear Them

Dress Code for T-Shirts – How to Wear Each Style

The t-shirt is without a doubt one of the most versatile items that men can have in their wardrobe. Many guys grew up with t-shirts being daily mainstays, and for good reason. T-shirts can pack a lot of punch when it comes to getting things across through fashion, and are perfect for those who are looking to embrace a casual appearance. With all this said, many people don’t realize just how many different styles of t-shirts there actually are, each of which provides its very own unique appearance. With a better understanding of the different types of t-shirts out there and how to wear them, however, you can drastically increase the versatility of this iconic item. The following are just four examples to file away for the next time you decide to throw on a t-shirt.

Polo Tees
While Polo shirts are often considered to be the property of preppy college students and golfers, the Polo tee has evolved in a way that allows it to be worn by practically anyone. These days, everyone can benefit from having a polo or two in their wardrobe, as the style can be very effective when worn during the warmer months of the year. When summer arrives, try out a Polo that is relatively light in shade paired with khakis or dark-washed designer jeans, finishing the ensemble with brown boat shoes or tasseled loafers for the perfect look.

Nautical Tees
For those who live near the water, it can be very effective to rock a nautical tee on occasion. Nautical tees are not only attractive, but are very functional as they tend to be long-sleeved and are adept at keeping the wind at bay. Choose a white and navy blue striped nautical tee with a scooped collar, avoiding vertical stripes (which can be quite unattractive). In order to create an effective ensemble, consider pairing this shirt with a white (or slightly off-white) blazer, or even cotton shorts in the middle of the summer.

Graphic Tees
The graphic tee is perhaps the most popular variety on the market. Just about every guy owns at least a few graphic tees, which can be very attractive when worn correctly. Look for graphic tees that are stark and bold; remember that you’re trying to make an impression here. If you want to throw together a truly eye-catching ensemble, go with grey jeans and a crisp blazer for a funky, yet effortless look.

V-Neck Tees
While v-neck tees certainly aren’t as popular as their counterparts, they cab be quite attractive. Look for v-necks that feature wide horizontal stripes, putting preference on those which are made out of light, wrinkle-free cotton. Take this look into the fall with a black cardigan, or throw it on under a blazer for a casual, yet sophisticated look.
