Style Tips for Men with Tall Body Types

tall-man-fashionAnyone with an interest in fashion knows that there’s nothing more important than wearing clothes that flatter your body type. This is especially true for those who are tall, as this element needs to be taken into consideration in order to choose clothing that fits in an attractive manner. Dressing for a tall body type can be difficult, but pulling off an outfit correctly often results in an extremely sleek and stylish look. By taking the following tips into consideration, you can drastically improve your chances of putting together an ensemble that is flattering to your tall body type.

Find the Right Fit
One of the most difficult aspects of dressing a tall body is finding clothing that fits perfectly. Clothing that is too loose, for example, will hang off of a tall body and look awkward, while tight-fitting clothes can make tall individuals look unnaturally slender. Perhaps the most important element of fit to take into consideration is length, which is imperative for those who are tall to focus on. When shopping for dress shirts, it’s important to purchase those which are long enough to tuck into your pants, as short dress shirts can look exceedingly strange on tall bodies. Also, ensure that the slacks you purchase a long enough (without being baggy towards the bottom), as short pants on a tall body typically makes for a lanky, unattractive look.

Avoid Vertical Stripes
Stripes are a common element of both casual and formal attire, and just about everyone finds themselves wearing stripes at one point or another. That said, it’s important for tall people to avoid vertical stripes at all costs, especially if they are exceptionally tall. Vertical stripes can make you appear taller than you actually are, which can be awkward for those who are already quite tall. If you’d like to downplay your height, you may want to consider wearing shirts that feature horizontal stripes. Horizontal stripes are commonly found in sweaters and some dress shirts, and can serve to make one look a bit shorter than they actually are, providing a completely opposite affect to that of vertical stripes.

Be Careful With Dark Colors
Dark colors can be very versatile, especially during the colder months of the year. Bearing this in mind, however, it’s important to realize that dark colors can also serve to make one look taller than they actually are. While dark colors are prized for this very reason by those who are looking to add a few inches of perceived height to their stature, wearing them is not recommended for people who are tall to begin with. A black top coat, for example, can make someone who is exceptionally tall look lanky and awkwardly slender, especially if they are wearing boots or other types of raised footwear. If at all possible, strive to dress in lighter colors to avoid giving off the perception that you’re taller than you actually are. The lighter the colors you can wear regularly, the better off you’ll be.
