The Five Worst Faux Pas in Men’s Fall Fashion 2012

mens-fall-fashion-mistakes-2012There’s really no getting around the fact that every guy likes to look good, regardless of whether or not he wants to admit it. It’s important to realize that some people take things a bit too far, however, embracing whatever trend or new fashion statement comes down the pike just so they can feel as if they’re on top of their image. This is especially prevalent when seasons begin to change, as a change in season often means a change in one’s approach to style and fashion. Fortunately, there are plenty of things you can do in order to avoid making mistakes that will inevitably lead to an unappealing look for you in the fall of 2012. The following are five mistakes to avoid this fall, all of which are likely to do more harm than good to your appearance.

1. Bulky Sweaters
Fall can certainly get chilly for those who live in cold-weather climates, but bulky sweaters don’t do anyone any favors. While they might provide warmth, they often make even the most fit, athletic individuals look sloppy and out of shape. If it feels even remotely bulky, leave it on the shelf.

2. Pastels
Believe it or not, some people think they can take the pastels that are so popular throughout spring and summer straight into the fall. The fact is, pastels have no place in fall color palettes, which are typically dominated by warm oranges, browns and yellows. While you might think you’re on the right track with a pastel-colored cardigan, you’ll do best by putting it back in the closet until spring rolls around.

3. Embracing Winter Too Early
A lot of people get excited about the fall, if only because it allows for one to start layering again. This being the case, it’s important to remember that it’s rather easy to take things too far and start dressing as if you’re stuck in the dead of winter if you aren’t careful. Too much layering in the early months of fall can make you look rather ridiculous, and should always be avoided. If you must start wearing scarves and hats this early on, be sure to stick with this which are constructed out of light materials.

4. Wearing Socks and Sandals
It’s not uncommon for some people to have a difficult time letting go of summer. This is especially true for people who live in relatively warm areas, in which case it can seem as if summer truly does last through September and even into October. This being said, the “socks and sandals” combination that so many people mistakenly embrace throughout the tail end of the summer and into the fall is nothing short of atrocious, and should be avoided at all costs. Even if you’ve been doing it for years, there’s no better time than now to stop.

5. Making Drastic Stylistic Shifts
Everyone likes to switch up their style on occasion, but some people take things too far. Instead of completely turning your look on it’s head, try experimenting with one or two pieces that you aren’t used to wearing. For example, people who typically wear crew neck sweaters might want to purchase a cardigan or two; small steps lead to effective changes in one’s look.
