Three Tips for Large Tie Knots

Tips for Ultra Large Tie Knots

large-tie-knotsWant a larger tie knot? Do guys in your office judge your sense of style by how big your knot is? It may sound funny but we get asked all the time questions related to tie knot size. First off, if you are planning on adding girth to your tie knot then make sure you are wearing a shirt that will compliment this humungous knot. The larger the knot the wider of a collar spread you will need. What you don’t want is a knot that causes the collar tips to rise up. Thus, look for so-called “cut-away” collars. Now that we know what should you will need, let’s figure out how to increase the size of the knot. Here are three tips that will make your tie knot the biggest in the office!

The Right Tie
The most important thing for large tie knots is the tie itself. Choose a tie made from a thicker fabric. Preferably are woven fabrics rather than printed fabrics since the texture of the weave will add more volume to the tie which will create a larger knot. In addition choose regular width ties. Skinny ties will just not look right with a disproportionate large knot. Here is another great tip: Pick a longer necktie! Using a longer tie will allow you to start the knot at a wider part which will instantly make a bigger knot without having to fiddle around too much. Please note that extra long ties should not be used if you are shorter than 6 feet.

Picking a Knot
There are several different ways to tie a tie. The three common large knots are the double Windsor, the Prince Albert, as well as the Shelby Knot. The largest knot of these three is the prince Albert – a knot that will allow you to add more width and size by adding several wrappings.

Faking it!
You may laugh but stuffing a piece of tissue into the knot is indeed something that some men do to increase the size of the knot. Choose some tissue that is soft, does not stain, and also does not fall apart. After we heard that men use tissue paper for their tie knots we started experimenting. What we found worked best are make-up pads. Funny you may think, and we did too, but it does in fact work! Just make sure that the your “fake inlay” is not visible! Give it a try and let us know how it worked.
