How to Tie an Ascot

The ascot is a formal type of neckwear that dates back to the late 19th century. The ascot tie got its name from the exclusive horse race called “The Royal Ascot” – an upper class equestrian event that required men to be dress with tailcoat jacket, waistcoat, and an ascot. Even though the ascot is much more lesurely worn today and comes in much larger range of patterns and colors, the way it is tied has remained unchanged. Below are instructions on how to tie the ascot:

Instructions:

  1. Lay the Ascot around your neck with one end hanging a little lower than the other.
  2. Wrap the longer end around the shorter end as shown in picture #2.
  3. Repeat step #2 a second time.
  4. Finally pull the wide end through the loop on your neck and let hang over the shorter end.
  5. Although this step is not shown, many men to prefer to secure the knot with e decorative pin.
