The Formal Pocket Square Fold:

The formal – also known as flat or “Presidential” fold – is a classic way men fold their pocket squares. It suits business attire as well as formal black tie dress code. This type of pocket square fold looks best with sold white pocket squares made from thicker silk, starched cotton, as well as linen.

  1. Lay the pocket square on a clean and flat surface.
  2. Fold the pocket square along the middle. Create a strong fold that stays in place. This is easiest with starched cotton pocket squares or pocket squares made from linen.
  3. Fold one side up – just enough so that it fits inside the breast pocket of the jacket.
  4. Tug the folded pocket square into the breast pocket so that ј to Ѕ inch is showing.

Triangular Pocket Square Fold

A classic way to wear your pocket square, suited for business and formal attire. All pocket square patterns and colors are suited for this fold as long as they match the rest of your ensemble.

  1. Lay the pocket square on a flat surface.
  2. Fold it along the midde to create a symmetrical triangle.
  3. Fold in one side of the triangle.
  4. Do the same on the other side and the fold will take it’s shape.
  5. Tug the pocket square into the jacket’s pocket and adjust to your liking.

Folding a Pocket Square Two Corners Up

A stylish way to wear your pocket square – well suited for business as well as casual wear with sports coat or blazer. Especially brightly solid colored pocket squares look best with this fold.

Two Corner Up Pocket Square Fold
  1. Lay the pocket square on a flat surface.
  2. Fold one corner in so that it creates the look of two overlapping triangles.
  3. Now fold in the left side of the pocket squares.
  4. Do the same on the right side.
  5. Place the pocket square into your breast pocket and style to your preference.

Folding a Pocket Square 3-Corners Up

This type of fold will require a little bit of practice to look right. Best are heavier pocket squares that hold up their shape better. Excellent are pocket squares made from thicker Thai silk, starched cotton, or linen.

Three Corner Up Pocket Square Fold
  1. Lay the pocket square on a flat surface.
  2. Fold in one corner to create two overlapping triangles. Make sure that the tips of these triangles are not spaced too far apart since room is needed for the 3rd corner.
  3. Fold over the left side, across from the other two tips to create the third corner.
  4. Now fold in the opposite side to create the flat base that will secure the pocket square in the breast pocket. Here is a little trick in case the fold doesn’t hold up: Secure the bottom fold with a paper clip!
  5. Tug the pocket square into the breast pocket and style to your preference.

The Casual Pocket Square Fold

This type of fold, sometimes also referred to as the “Puff” fold. Is one of the easiest and most casual way to wear your pocket square. If you want to accessorize your suit with a pocket square but want a more casual rather than “pretentious” look, then this is the fold for you.

  1. Place the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
  2. Pinch the center with two fingers and pick it up.
  3. Slide the pocket square through your other hand.
  4. Flip the pocket square around.
  5. Tug the pocket square into the pocket of your jacket and give it some final adjustment.
