After all, this is an event where label after label unveils a new collection of designs, many of which will go on to make waves in the fashion community. Michael Kors is one of the most well-known designers of men’s clothing and accessories, so it should come as no surprise that his line’s Spring 2013 collection is one of the finest on the market. There are a variety of aspects of Michael Kors Spring 2013 collection that can be assimilated into anyone’s wardrobe. Consider the following things that helped this collection stand out at this year’s New York Fashion Week, all of which make for an effective group of pieces that anyone can enjoy wearing.

The Grown-Up Look
If Michael Kors is known for anything, it’s the fact that he is able to design clothing that gives those who wear it a grown-up, adult appearance. Bearing this in mind, he keeps a playful aspect involved at all times, avoiding the stuffiness that is often associate with a grown-up appearance. For example, the suits in Kors’ Spring 2013 collection feature a modern-cut and are made out of high-quality fabrics, yet the ensembles he pieced together for Fashion Week exhibited a great deal of contrast; something you don’t often see in the modern business suit. Michael Kors’ designs are proof that one can look exceptionally grown-up and attractive while still keeping their youth involved, and the Spring 2013 collection does a lot to push this in a forward direction.

Horizontal Stripes
One of Kors’ favorite patterns during NY fashion week were two-toned horizontal stripes. Crewneck sweaters in particular were decorated with wide stripes in navy & Kelly-green as well as the classic nautical Navy & White combination. While vertical stripes may not be flattering on us men with beer bellies, they are the perfect pattern for those fit men that are looking to draw attention to their attire.

Stripes on Checks?
Who said that pairing too many bold patterns can cause a disconnect? Anyone doubting this will be convinced otherwise after looking at Kors’ collection during NYFW. Especially grabbing our attention was the strong contrasting black and white striped suit paired with the color matching gingham check shirt, and black skinny tie. While not your everyday office ensemble, it is an interesting combination of boldness and elegance.

“Warm-Casual”
While many of Michael Kors’ designs do indeed focus on the grown-up look, he also has added a handful of designs to his Spring 2013 collection that can only be described as “warm-casual.” Think striped thermals in relatively dark hues of greens and reds, and you’ll be on your way towards gaining a better understanding of this look. Perfect for those who live in cool-weather climates in which Spring doesn’t exactly mean shorts and a t-shirt, the warm-casual look is sure to turn a few heads this year.

Takeaways for the Modern Man
Modern men can get a lot out of finding a suit that makes them look as if they know their age, yet it’s important to realize that youth should never be lost on fashion. The charcoal suits and yellow ties that found a harmonious balance on the runway during Fashion Week are excellent examples of what one can do in order to achieve the best of both worlds. For those who like to go casual more often than not, the warm-casual look is the perfect option, and can be very attractive when properly pulled-off. One can also take away from Kors’ designs the element of surprise that can only come from experimenting with different combinations of fabrics and colors. The more one experiments, the better their chances of stumbling upon the perfect ensemble.
