Oriental Necktie Knot

How to Tie an Oriental Tie Knot

tie-oriental-necktie-knotYou already know how to tie a tie. You have mastered the simple Four in Hand and also know how to tie a double Windsor. So why should you learn yet another knot? Well, just like different dress shoes match different occasions and suit colors, different necktie knots suit different collar styles and necktie designs.

When to Tie an Oriental Knot
Tie this knot if you want a medium sized knot that is triangular and symmetrical in shape. The oriental knot is smaller in size and therefore requires less of the tie’s length making it a perfect choice knot for taller men wanting to tie a normal length necktie. The best shirt’s for the oriental knot have a medium collar spread.

Instructions:

  1. Lay the necktie around your neck with the broad end hanging 5-6 inches below the narrow end. The wide end should be turned over so that the inside stitching is visible. Lay the narrow end over the wide end.
  2. Now pull the wide end of the tie over the narrow end so that the front of the tie is showing.
  3. Just like you do with the four in Hand, pull the wide end in between neck and tie.
  4. Now pull the wide end through the loop you created in step #3. If you like a dimple then pinch the tie right before tightening the knot.
  5. Flip over your collars and center the knot. You are done!
