Summer Style Steals for 2011

Summer Style Steals

Believe it or not, summer is a very convenient season to discover and express your sense of fashion. Men’s style might be very costly in terms of suits and neckties, but the items that a guy needs for summer are surprisingly affordable. In fact, most casual outfits are already perfect as they are for a summer day out – once they’re styled with the right accessories, that is.

V-Neck Tees
Nothing screams summer like skin exposure, and a v-neck tee lets you look comfortable and confident at the same time. And with v-necks costing less than $10 a pop – even coming in all combinations of 3-packs – it’s a very easy and low-commitment way to try and add some color to your existing summer style choices.

Get yourself one – or five – in the colors of summer men’s fashion: bright yellow, bold fuchsia, electric blue, traffic light green and all the rest of them. Spring and summer are the best months of the year to really turn up the volume of your style in every way.

There are several ways to style up a v-neck tee when you feel that it’s a little too plain. Necklaces tend to stand out a lot more when they’re properly exposed by a v-neck. The bright colors can also be complemented by an un-ironed button-down or an un-lined blazer in some sober color thrown over the tee.

Webbed Belts
Leather accessories will never get evicted from their historical place in men’s fashion, but summer is also a season for more casual – and more durable – pieces. Canvas and cotton are go-to leather substitutes in this sweaty, sweltering season, for obvious reasons.

Webbed belts – which can be had for a few dollars – make perfect stand-ins for your pricy leather belts. Although they’re not to be worn with your suit and necktie, the belts appropriately catch that laid back summer vibe, while making sweat and beach damage very easy to address. You could just chuck the belt into the wash or even replace it outright, if you feel so inclined. Your wallet won’t feel a thing.

A dark enough belt – black, navy or olive green – can substitute for a black belt, while neutral tones like khaki and beige can be swapped for brown leather. Since the belt is already more casual, you might want to consider taking your shoes in a similar direction with comfy driving shoes or full-on dressed down canvas kicks.

Plastic Shades
No man should go through this summer without acquiring at least one new pair of shades. It need not be the expensive kind – it could be the dollar store variety sold by the register for all other people would know – as long as it’s chosen tastefully.

The trend of plastic sunglasses, while having gone through several interpretations, is yet to disappear. Its latest incarnation is the club master, a grown-up and more sophisticated version of the wayfarer also made popular by Ray-Ban. The sleek throwback style for men, though, is also sold at countless stores and chains, so your budget need not worry.

One of the best things about this particular eyewear fashion trend is that it works with most facial shapes and outfits. As long as the size of the frame itself is proportional to the size of your face, it will work with everything from your best suit-and-tie to denim cut-offs paired with the aforementioned v-neck tee.
