7 Tips That Will Add Inches to Your Height

dress-tips-for-short-menClothes make the man – a statement that most fashion designers and clothing aficionados will agree with. Clothes give us the opportunity to dress up, dress down, emphasize our face and eye color, and it can even help us loose a few pounds and add inches to our height (or at least they can create this illusion). Below are 9 dress tips that will help you look taller.

#1 Monochromatic Colors:
Monochromatic outfits will add height. This does not mean that you have to dress in all black. A dark patternless suit, gray shirt, and colorful tie will do the trick. If you opt for some color contrast then keep the darker colors near the lower part. Dark pants paired with a light dress shirt will add inches while light pants and black shirt will have the opposite effect.

#2 Vertical Patterns:
You may have heard the saying that “stripes make thin”. It is true! In addition they will create the illusion of height. Best are dress shirts with narrow stripes as well as finely pin striped suits. What you want to avoid are checks, or even worse, horizontal stripes. The same is true for the necktie. Best are skinny ties as well as narrow striped ties.

#3 Slim Fitting Clothes:
Baggy clothes will widen your frame and will make you look shorter in proportion. Thus, keep you clothes well fitted. Also to avoid are double breasted jackets. Instead choose single breasted suits that only have one or two buttons. The deep V-cut of the one or two button jacket will add a vertical line and add inches.

#4 Consider Proportion:
When wearing your clothes consider proportion. A short man would appear even shorter if he wore an extra wide necktie for example. For ties we suggest you go with skinny ties or European designer ties that are typically 1/4 – 1/2 inch narrower than mens ties from American brands. The same true for your cuff/sleeve proportion. While the 1/2 inch visible cuff is considered normal, shorter men want to cut it down to 1/4 inch. It is all about proportion and well fitting clothes.

#5 High Placement of Accents
Wear those details that stand out higher. This will force the eye up which in turn creates the illusion of height. Perfect here are pocket squares, neckties, as well as hats.

#6 Choosing The Right Clothes
Again, you want to wear clothes that emphasize a vertical line. Perfect are non-pleated pants that have no cuffs. Wear your pants a touch higher on your waist to create a longer vertical line. Shorts should be avoided as they will have the opposite, shrinking effect.

#7 Adding “Real” Inches
Add some physical height by wearing a hat (not a baseball cap but rather fedora, bowlers hat, or straw hats. In addition you can heighten your stance by wearing shoes with a slightly higher heel or you may also want to consider adding inserts of up to 1 inch.
