Jay-Z Impresses in a Velvet Tux by Tom Ford

Take one look at the music industry today, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a man that has been more successful in the last decade or so than Jay-Z. The rapper turned producer turned mogul is one of the richest men in the country, calls Beyonce his girl and took home 3 Grammy’s at this year’s show. It should stand to reason, then, that he was one of the best-dressed men at the awards show. Jay-Z never fails to keep people entertained, and this comes right down to the way he dresses. Read more about how Jay-Z got his look, and how you might be able to learn a thing or two from it.

More Tom Ford
Tom Ford was a very popular designer for men at the 2013 Grammy Awards, with Justin Timberlake taking a nod from him as well. Jay-Z looked fantastic in his Tom Ford velvet tux, which screamed “elegant” in ways that most people wish they could pull off. Featuring exceptionally wide, peaked lapels, there’s no getting around the fact that Jay-Z looked like a true professional and successful businessman in this outfit. After all, you’ve got to dress the part when you’ve reached a level such as his, and he knows this.

Nothing Flashy
It can be very tempting to accessorize a black-tie ensemble, and there are of course plenty of different ways to go about doing so. Jay-Z took the adult route here, however, avoiding any ensemble elements outside of his tux that might have been considered flashy. Aside from an elegant self tied bow tie, he didn’t incorporate any accessories that would otherwise be used to turn heads, perhaps because he knows that he doesn’t have to do that in order to attract attention to himself. Sometimes, it’s simply all about the tux.

Takeaways for the Modern Man
The main thing that modern men can learn from Jay-Z’s look at the Grammy’s is that accessorizing isn’t always necessary. If you feel as if it’s going to add to your appearance, then by all means do so. However, you might want to try letting your ensemble elements speak for themselves rather than dressing them up heavily with accessories. Instead of heavy accessories pick one item that stands out from the rest. Jay-Z did this with his velvet suit featuring very pronounced lapels.
