Men’s Spring Style: Colorful Casuals

mens-fashion-colors-spring-2012Colors have always been part of men’s style for the spring, but rarely is the habit as pronounced as it is this season. It’s as if designers and fashion labels are really going out of their way to put as wide a palette as possible into their wares. All those new shades, however, can be a daunting challenge to the average wardrobe. If you’re not sure about how to wear them, here are three easy ways to infuse some of that spring style into your daily rotation.

Tie Colors for Spring 2012
As already popular last spring, pastel tones dominate the collections of most men’s tie designers. Neckties in light blue, pinks, peach, and lime will be perfect for your spring office dress. New for 2012 are light shades of lavender, and bright shades of turquoise. Please have a look at all our new Ties for Spring 2012.

See Them Shoes
Men’s fashion typically shows you just two colors of shoes – brown and black (in all their many shades). If you’ve ever had the hankering for a slightly more daring pigment, though, now’s your chance. Even the heavily traditional world of men’s accessories is taking a turn for the colorful.

There are a lot more options than you’d expect for the brightly colored shoe. You could take your pick from classy leather, go-anywhere canvas or sartorial suede; all of them offer roughly the same variety of colors, albeit at different price points (and with varying maintenance needs). Suede is the most versatile one this season because it can go up or down on the dressiness scale, but canvas is the one that you can wear even after the trend (and good weather) fades.

Go all out with the color on the shoes with shades like fire engine red or forest green; you want the unusual hue to be as readily visible as possible. It’s the shock of color that will ultimately make your most boring jeans and tee outfit suddenly seem so interesting. Even better, leave the socks at home and show off just the kind of sartorial man you are this season.

Shorts and Shades
Now that the weather’s gotten much balmier, it’s also become much more acceptable for you to show some skin whenever you’re not required to be in a necktie. Instead of the standard khaki or navy, however, there’s extra style appeal for the man who can pull off a pair of colored shorts.

Unusual shades like tangerine and seafoam blue will be all the rage this season, and for good reason. Skin exposure tends to balance out the visual effect of such garish colors, so you get a rare chance to really experiment and go wild with colors. Just remember to work with your skin tone; fairer skin could use richer colors like burgundy, while darker tones tend to work better with light shades like baby blue.

The standard rules of fashion still apply here, so you’ll want to balance out the color with a drab tone like gray or olive, if not a plain white. Going for a clash using complementary or contrasting colors is also an option, but be warned that it’s not easy to execute.

Polos With Pigments
Of all the ways to add color to your wardrobe, a new set of polos is the least challenging option. Not only are polos already staples of non-necktie fashion, but you’re also likely to already have a good variety of colors in your closet. Should you decide to take this route, see to it that you at least get to try colors that you’ve never worn before. Shades like magenta, goldenrod and lime are some of the least represented in the average guy’s wardrobe.

Whichever method you end up using, see to it that you maintain balance in every outfit. Grounded pieces like white tees and gray jeans are strategic counterpoints to the kaleidoscope that is this season’s colors.
