Finding the Perfect Men’s Swimsuit

Men’s Swimsuits 2012: Fashion, Style, and Function

mens-swim-shorts-2012With the warm weather finally here, a lot of people have already started carving out time each week to spend at the beach. After all, there’s nothing better than hanging out by the water with friends and family to soak up some sun, and not enough people allow themselves the time to do so. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time at the beach this summer, however, you’ve got to do what you can to have the right swimsuit on hand. Choosing the perfect men’s swimsuit isn’t easy, as there are a lot of poor quality, and very unfashionable examples on the market. That said, by taking the time to learn what to look for, you shouldn’t have any issues finding a swimsuit that will be both functional and attractive. Consider the following tips, all of which can help to point you in the right direction.

Sizing and Materials
A lot of people don’t realize just how important it is to choose a swimsuit that is the right size for your body. Swimsuits that are too large have the all-too-common risk of falling down when you’re in the water, which can be nothing short of embarrassing. Ideally, the swim trunks you purchase should fit so that they are quite snug; even a little bit loose can often be too much. You should also look for those which feature built-in ties, which will help you to tighten the suit even further if need be. In terms of material, you will often have the choice between swimsuits that feature netting on the inside and those which do not. Netting can sometimes cause discomfort, which is why many men choose the other option. The best way to determine which option is ideal for you is to try on as many different swimsuits as possible.

Color and Style
Color and style are extremely important to take into consideration when shopping for the right swimsuit. Swimsuits very often tend to feature “loud” colors, which can destroy a beach ensemble and make people look like caricatures of themselves. Instead, go with swim trunks that are relatively neutral in color; black, grey, navy blue etc are all excellent options. These will support an ensemble rather than turn it on its head, and can make for a much more enjoyable time at the beach. You’ll also have the option between patterned and solid swimsuits, with solids being far easier to pair with shirts (if you intend to wear one). Subtlety is key when it comes to swim trunks; avoid over-the-top pieces at all costs.

Wearing Swim Trunks Effectively
If you’re in good shape, there’s nothing wrong with wearing swim trunks, a pair of sandals and nothing else to the beach. That said, a lot of guys don’t feel entirely comfortable with this look, and sometimes wear a shirt to the beach as well. A solid-colored form-fitting t-shirt (it’s best to avoid graphic tees) can be very effective in this case, and will provide contrast to the trunks if chosen properly.
