Roaring 20’s Fashion Ideas
As big fans of the book, we had to see the film. Sadly, we can’t say it was the best film we’ve seen, but we were a bit awe struck by some of the fashion ensembles we saw. Jay Gatsby played by Leonardo Dicarprio captures the wild decadence of the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age. He always looks meticulously and ornately put together. One of our favorite scenes had Jay Gatsby looking stern and polished in a soft pink three piece suit and a wide striped tie.
All the leading men had their own individual style, but we loved seeing them all decked out in their finest black tie attire at one of the infamous Gatsby parties. We think Jay Gatsby had the classic self tie bow tie on while Tom Buchanan has the solid black self tie bow tie. It’s just a hunch!
We loved seeing Jay’s Gatsby mind running while wearing an ivory suit, a blue shirt and a gold tie in a room comically overflowing with flowers. Somehow, this spot of gold unified this curious look from head to toe. The Great Gatsby went to great lengths to distinguish his look from everyone around him.
While we can’t rave about the movie in its entirety, we did love the regal aesthetic and the opulent mis-en-scene. Our hats go off to the Costume Team behind The Great Gatsby. We can’t stop talking about all the glorious ensembles.
